the worst thing you can say to someone is ‘you’re too sensitive’ because that’s basically saying ‘you feel things more deeply and fully than i do and this inconveniences me because now i have to be more mindful of my own actions’

you’re not too sensitive, the world is just callous and stubborn. sensitivity doesn’t make you weak and callousness doesn’t make you strong.

NEED HELP GETTING OUT OF ABUSIVE SITUATION

thegirlwhowasalwaysafraid:

Since I last published this post, I still haven’t received enough, so doing it again.  I hate to do this, but I need financial help. Here is my situation: I live in an emotionally abusive household, I owe money to my school without which I can’t go back, and I suffer from severe OCD. I am on break from school My living situation is aggravating my illness, which makes it impossible for me to start living normally. The breakdown is this: 4000$ to pay my debt to my school, 3000$ to pay for my medical expenses, and 3000 $ to pay for living expenses in a new place until I go back to school (I am working in exchange for free living space), and ultimately 8000 $ to pay for tuition. In all, 18000$.

I feel desperate and I am only ressorting to this situation because I live in an environment where my private affairs are violated, where my privacy is not respected, and when my body is oftentimes modified without my permission. I need time, patience, empathy to heal and I am not getting that. My  paypal email is ccd4t@virginia.edu. I can write personalized poems as thank you for a donation, and I can also do research for you and proofread papers. If you can’t pay signal boost. I know it is a huge amount, but if enough people see this, I might be able to get by. Thank you.

Edit (03/29/2014): So far I have only received 85$. Thanks for those who donated, but that is definitely not enough. My goal for the month of April is to have half of my financial goal achieved. Please help me because time is ticking. Again, I can proofread and edit papers and do your papers for you if you give the deadline way in advance.

Edit (04/18/2014): I just had a conversation with one of my parents and this is becoming URGENT. I need half of this money by next week. This is a life threatening situation. HELP PLEASE. My offer with the paper still stands.

Blanket statements against cis, straight, white (often male) people used to make me uncomfortable.

Then I got into a fight with my (cis, straight, white, male) friend. We’ve been friends for almost ten years and we’ve gone through some rough stuff together, but that night he said that he didn’t understand why I got upset with people who supported companies with homophobic CEOs or which had homophobic policies. He tried to tell me that it wasn’t a big deal, and that I was “overreacting” for being angry about the fact that things like that make it harder for people who aren’t straight—people like me—to get hired and generally have basic human respect. He didn’t “understand what my problem was.”

I ended up retreating to the bathroom and pulling my hair, and out of my mouth came the words, “Fucking straight people!”

Then I realized why people used blanket statements like that.

That’s the story you’re not hearing when you feel uncomfortable about those blanket statements. You don’t understand that—today, yesterday, last week, their whole lives—they’ve been stepped on by those closest to them. Friends, family, loved ones, coworkers, bosses. All these cis, straight, white, male people who they love and cherish using the wrong pronouns for them, derailing them, gaslighting them, telling them “that’s just how it is,” telling them to get over it, telling them they don’t matter.

When you use generalizing blanket statements, it hurts less. It isn’t your best friend who’s jokingly using slurs. It isn’t your mother who says “how gross” when a woman kisses another woman on the TV and you’re sitting right across the table. It isn’t your brother who takes photos of trans people walking down the street and then shows them to you like he’s proud of himself. It depersonalizes it, makes the people who hurt you into a nebulous group.

It’s just “white people.” It’s just “cis people.” It’s just “straight men.” For one second, you can pretend that it’s no one you actually know and love.

So the next time you hear someone use a blanket statement, stop and hear the pain and struggle underneath it. Think about all the personal stories of betrayal they must have. And then feel grateful, really fucking grateful, that you don’t need to use them yourself.

Bolding for emphasis.
